SUSPECT CONNECTED TO ASSAULT INVESTIGATION ARRESTED
(Poplar Hill First Nation) – Police located and arrested a male suspect connected to a recent assault in Poplar Hill First Nation.
Members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service working out of the Poplar Hill First Nation detachment received a call for service regarding an incident involving a weapon in the community during the evening hours of Monday March 2.
When police arrived on scene, they were unable to locate a male suspect. Police did learn the suspect had been wielding an axe when they assaulted an adult female.
The victim did not appear to have sustained injuries as a result of the assault.
Through continued investigation, police confirmed the identity of a male suspect.
Police located the suspect at a residential address in Poplar Hill First Nation, and arrested him without incident, on Tuesday, March 3.
Laney Cameron OWEN, 24, of Poplar Hill First Nation, is charged with:
• Assault with a Weapon
• Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
• Failure to Comply with Release Order
He appeared in bail court on Wednesday, March. 4 and was remanded into custody with a future court date.
