(Slate Falls First Nation, ON) – Police arrested two suspects in connection with an ongoing aggravated assault investigation in Slate Falls First Nation.

Members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service working out of the Slate Falls First Nation detachment received a call for service on Friday, July 31, regarding an assault that had recently occurred in the community.

An adult male victim was located in the Porcupine Road area and appeared to have suffered injuries consistent with a recent assault. The victim was transported to the community nursing station before being transferred to Thunder Bay for further evaluation and treatment of their injuries.

The exact extent of the injuries is not known, but they are believed to be serious. Members of the NAPS Crime Unit have since become involved in the investigation.

As a result of continued investigation, police identified two male suspects. Both suspects have since been arrested without incident.

Aidan WABASON, 23, of Slate Falls First Nation, is charged with:

• Aggravated Assault

Ashton BUNTING, 22, of Cat Lake First Nation, is charged with:

• Aggravated Assault

Both of the accused appeared for a bail hearing on Sunday, Aug. 2 and were remanded into custody with a future court date of Tuesday, Aug. 4.

The investigation remains ongoing.
