MOTORIST ARRESTED ON WINTER ROAD CHARGED FOR DANGEROUS OPERATION
(Attawapiskat First Nation) – A motorist who fled from police at dangerous speeds in Attawapiskat First Nation was later located on the winter road and arrested Saturday.
Nishnawbe Aski Police Service officers working out of the Attawapiskat First Nation detachment received a call for service regarding a suspected impaired driver after 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7.
While on patrol in the community, officers observed a black SUV and female driver matching the descriptions they received about the suspected impaired motorist. Officers attempted to make a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed.
Pursuit was discontinued in an effort to maintain public safety.
As a result of continued investigation, officers located the vehicle and suspect outside of the community on the winter road before noon that same day. Officers approached in their cruisers in a manner that prevented the suspect from fleeing.
The accused was taken into custody.
Michaela KOOSTACHIN, 27, of Attawapiskat First Nation, is charged with:
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Flight from Peace Officer
- Obstruct Peace Officer
- Resist Peace Officer
She appeared for a bail hearing on Monday, Feb. 9, and was released with conditions and a future court appearance date.
