UPDATE: SUSPICIOUS DEATH INVESTIGATION

(Eabametoong First Nation) – Police have arrested and charged a male suspect with manslaughter amid an investigation into a suspicious death.

Members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service working out of the Eabametoong First Nation detachment received a call for service about an adult male who was brought to the community nursing station and pronounced deceased in the evening hours of Monday, Sept. 1.

Members of the NAPS Crime Unit became involved in the ongoing investigation, and have been assisted by the Coroner’s Office and the OPP.

As a result of continued investigation, an adult male suspect was identified, located and arrested without incident on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Jonah BAXTER, 31, of Eabametoong First Nation, is charged with:

  • Manslaughter

He appeared for a bail court hearing on Wednesday, Sept. 3, and was remanded into custody with a future court appearance date.

The investigation remains ongoing.
