COCAINE, CRACK COCAINE SEIZED AMID SEARCH IN BEARSKIN LAKE FIRST NATION

(Bearskin Lake First Nation) – Police arrested two suspects and seized a quantity of cocaine following the search of a Bearskin Lake First Nation home Saturday.

Members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service’s Intelligence Unit and NAPS Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant, with assistance from frontline members working out of the Bearskin Lake First Nation detachment, on Saturday, Feb. 7 at a residential address on Bridge Road.

The search warrant was obtained following on ongoing investigation into drug trafficking activity within the community of Bearskin Lake First Nation.

When police entered the home, they located and arrested two suspects without incident. Following a search of the home, police located and seized a quantity of suspected crack cocaine, cocaine, cash, and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.

The value of cash seized totals about $15,000, and the estimated street value of drugs seized totals nearly $30,000.

A 35-year-old male from Bearskin Lake First Nation is charged with:

• Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

A 34-year-old female from Bearskin Lake First Nation is charged with:

• Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

Both suspects have been released from custody with conditions and future court appearance dates. The names of accused individuals are withheld until charges against them have been formally sworn in before the courts.
