ASSAULT INVESTIGATION UPDATE: SUSPECT ARRESTED

(Eabametoong First Nation) – Police have arrested a youth suspect connected to a recent and ongoing assault investigation in Eabametoong First Nation.

NAPS officers working out of the Eabametoong First Nation detachment were made aware just before 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 31, about an assault that had recently occurred near the baseball field.

Police learned a male had been assaulted, and sustained injuries consistent with a stabbing. The victim was transported to the community nursing station, and later to the hospital in Thunder Bay, for further evaluation and treatment of their injuries.

The exact extent of those injuries is unknown at this time but are believed to be serious.

Further investigation led police to identify a youth suspect, who was located and arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 3.

A 15-year-old male of Eabametoong First Nation is charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order x 2

The suspect appeared for a bail hearing on Thursday, Sept. 4 and was remanded into custody with a future court appearance date.
