ASSAULT INVESTIGATION: POLICE SEEK PUBLIC ASSISTANCE

(Fort Hope, ON) – The Nishnawbe Aksi Police Service is seeking public support as it continues to investigation the circumstances surrounding a recent assault in Fort Hope First Nation.

NAPS officers working out of the Fort Hope First Nation detachment were made aware just before 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 31, about an assault that had recently occurred near the baseball field.

Police learned an adult male had been assaulted, and sustained injuries consistent with a stabbing.  The victim was transported to the community nursing station, and later to the hospital in Thunder Bay, for further evaluation and treatment of their injuries.

The exact extent of those injuries is unknown at this time but are believed to be serious.

Through continued investigation, police learned the attacker was believed to be an adult male who was dressed in black and wearing a ski mask. The suspect approached the victim at about 3 a.m. in the baseball field near a trail along the third-base line.

The suspect chased the victim just before assaulting him with an object. The victim managed to escape further assault and proceeded to the nursing station, while the suspect discontinued their chase and was believed to have fled on-foot in an unknown direction.

NAPS continues to the investigate the circumstance surrounding this incident and is requesting public assistance in identifying the suspect involved.
