UPDATE: TWO ADDITIONAL SUSPECTS CONNECTED TO AGGRAVATED ASSAULT ARRESTED

(Mishkeegogamang, ON) – Police have arrested two additional suspects connected to an ongoing aggravated assault investigation that stems from an incident that took place on Tuesday, Aug. 5.

A 16-year-old male from Mishkeegogamang First Nation is charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Failure to Comply with a Release Order x 8

Shawn William KWANDIBENS, 18, of Mishkeegogamang First Nation, is charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

Both appeared for a bail hearing on Monday, Aug. 25 and were remanded into custody with future appearance dates.

The identity of the youth accused is being withheld in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

FOUR ARRESTED AMID AGGRAVATED ASSAULT INVESTIGATION

(Mishkeegogamang, ON) – Police arrested four suspects following a violent incident in Mishkeegogamang First Nation.

Members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service working out of the Mishkeegogamang First Nation detachment received a call for service in the evening hours of Tuesday, Aug. 5, regarding an assault that had recently occurred.

Through the course of their investigation, responding officers learned multiple individuals became involved in an altercation outside of a home on Muddy Lane.

Police learned two males allegedly armed with blunt objects had smashed windows at the home. A violent altercation between those two males and another group of male suspects ensued.

Two males sustained injuries and were transported to the community nursing station. They were later transported to a hospital in Thunder Bay for further evaluation and treatment of their injuries. The exact extent of those injuries is unknown but not believed to be life-threatening.

Two other accused males were identified and arrested without incident near the scene.

Desreil KWANDIBENS, 21, of Mishkeegogamang First Nation, is charged with:

  • Mischief Under $5,000
  • Uttering Threats – Damage to Property
  • Possession of Weapons for a Dangerous Purpose

He has been released with conditions and a future court appearance date.

Ryan Scott KWANDIBENS, 30, of Mishkeegogamang First Nation, is charged with:

  • Assault x 2
  • Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Mischief Under $5,000
  • Failure to Comply with a Probation Order
  • Failure to Comply with a Release Order x 2

He has been released with conditions and a future appearance date.

Andrew Shane WESLEY, 28, of Mishkeegogamang First Nation, is charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order x 4

He appeared in court on Wednesday, Aug. 6, and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.

Larry Benson WESLEY, 35, of Mishkeegogamang First Nation, is charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
