FENTANYL, OXY, METHAMPHETAMINE SEIZED DURING SEARCH
(Attawapiskat, ON) – Police seized fentanyl, among other illicit drugs, and arrested two suspects following the search of an Attawapiskat First Nation home Friday.
Members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service’s Intelligence Unit and Emergency Response Team, with assistance from front line officers, executed a search warrant at a residential address in Attawapiskat First Nation in the late morning hours of Friday, Aug. 1.
The search warrant was obtained as a result of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking activity within the community of Attawapiskat First Nation.
Following the search, police located and arrested two suspects without incident.
Police also located and seized a quantity of suspected Fentanyl, Methamphetamine tablets, Crystal Methamphetamine, Oxycodone tablets, and cash.
The estimated street value of drugs seized totals $42,000 CAD.
Vincent OKIMAW, 35, of Attawapiskat First Nation, is charged with:
- Possession of Fentanyl for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of Oxycodone for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking x 2
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
Courtney IAHTAIL, 30, of Attawapiskat First Nation is charged with:
- Possession of Fentanyl for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of Oxycodone for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking x 2
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
Both appeared for bail court on Saturday, Aug. 2. OKIMAW was remanded into custody with a future appearance date. IAHTAIL was released with conditions and a future appearance date.
