SIU TO INVESTIGATE DEER LAKE INCIDENT

(Deer Lake, ON) – The SIU is invoking its mandate following an incident involving police in Deer Lake Tuesday.

Members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service working out of the Deer Lake First Nation detachment responded to a call for service in the afternoon hours of Tuesday, July 22.

An adult male was injured following an interaction with police officers.

Ontario’s Special investigations Unit is invoking its mandate and will be investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident.  As a result of SIU invoking its mandate, NAPS will not be providing further details. All inquiries regarding the SIU investigation should be directed to the SIU.

There is no known ongoing threat to public safety in connection with this incident, however, the community can expect a significant and ongoing police presence in the area.
