ASSAULT SUSPECT ARRESTED
(Kashechewan, ON) – A 17-year-old suspect connected to an ongoing assault investigation in Kashechewan First Nation was arrested and charged this week.
On Tuesday, July 1, Nishnawbe Aski Police Service officers working out of the Kashechewan First Nation detachment received a call for service regarding an assault that had recently occurred in the community.
Police learned a 16-yeare-old female had been assaulted by a 17-year-old female suspect. The victim was transported to the nursing clinic by EMS for further evaluation and treatment of her injuries.
The exact extent of the injuries is unknown but not believed to be life-threatening.
As a result of continued investigation, police learned the identity of the accused. Police also discovered a weapon had been used during the assault.
A suspect was taken into custody without incident in the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 8.
A 17-year-old female from Kashechewan First Nation is charged with:
• Assault with a Weapon
The accused appeared for a bail hearing and was remanded into custody with a future court appearance date.
The identity of the accused is being withheld in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
