AGGRAVATED ASSAULT SUSPECT ARRESTED

(Kasabonika Lake, ON) – Police arrested a male suspect following a stabbing incident in Kasabonika Lake First Nation Sunday.

Members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service received a call for service in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 22, regarding a serious assault that had recently occurred at a residential address in the community of Kasabonika Lake First Nation.

Police learned an adult male accused attacked an adult male victim with a weapon. The victim sustained injuries consistent with a stabling. During this altercation, an adult female attempted to intervene and was also assaulted by the accused.

The accused was not at the scene when police arrived but was located and taken into custody a short time later without incident.

The victim was transported to the community nursing station for further treatment and evaluation of their injuries. Due to the severity of their injuries, the victim was later transported to the hospital in Thunder Bay for further treatment.

The exact extent of their injuries is unknown at this time but are not believed to be life-threatening.

Cainan Robert John ANDERSON, 30, of Kasabonika Lake First Nation, is charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Break and Enter with Intent to Commit Indictable Offence
  • Assault

The accused appeared for a bail hearing on Sunday, June 22, and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
