Attawapiskat First Nation: Shots Fired Print
(Attawapiskat First Nation) On December 20th 2008, the Nishnawbe-Aski Police in Attawapiskat received a report of shots fired within the community.

Investigation by the police located an armed male within the community. The suspect proceeded to point the firearm in the direction of the police vehicle. The police instructed the armed male suspect to drop the firearm. The police kept communication with the suspect to drop the firearm.

The suspect finally complied with the demands of the police and was arrested. He was in possession a semi automatic shotgun. Investigation to date reveals the suspect discharged five (5) rounds within the community. There are no reports of any injuries.

Twenty- two (22) year -old Jason Paul-Martin of Attawapiskat First Nation is in custody and is scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing on Monday, December 22, 2008 in Cochrane Ontario.

Mr. Jason Paul-Martin is charged with Pointing a Firearm, Careless use of Firearm, Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Unauthorized Possession.

Attawapiskat First Nation is approximately 272 miles north of Cochrane, Ontario.
