(Lansdowne House, ON)  On Monday, June 30, 2014, Nishnawbe-Aski Police in Neskantaga First Nation received a report of a threatening letter.  There were also reports about shots being fired.  Extra officers were sent to the community to assist with the investigation and community safety. 

Investigation revealed that three youths were responsible for approximately two threatening letters.  The youths were each charged with one count of Uttering Threats and one count of Mischief.  Police believe that the youths are not a continuing danger to the community, however this occurrence was serious and therefore charges were laid.  The reports of shots being fired were investigated but no reports have been verified. 

The three youths, who cannot be identified under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, were released on conditions and will appear in court in Neskantaga (Lansdowne House) on October 9, 2014. 

Neskantaga First Nation is located approximately 580 km northwest of Thunder Bay.
