TWO FIREARMS INVESTIGATIONS WITH CHARGES LAID Print

ARMED MALE ARRESTED IN DEER LAKE

(Deer Lake, ON)  On October 18, 2013, at 2:00 a.m., in the First Nation Territory of Deer Lake, police received a report of gun shots fired in the community.  An investigation continued with the assistance of the NAPS Emergency Response Team. 

22 year old Quinton Trevor MEEKIS of Deer Lake was charged with Careless Use of a Firearm, Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, and Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm. 

MEEKIS is currently in custody and will appear in court today in Sioux Lookout,  Ontario. 

Deer Lake First Nation is located approximately 725 km northwest of Thunder Bay.

ARMED MALE ARRESTED IN WUNNUMIN LAKE

(Wunnumin Lake, ON)  On October 18, 2013, at 8:24 p.m., in the First Nation Territory of Wunnumin Lake, police responded several reports of gun shots. 

The investigation continued with the assistance of the NAPS Emergency Response Team. 

A 25 year old Wunnumin Lake resident has suffered injuries due to shots being fired; the man is currently being treated at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. 

A search of the community resulted in the arrest of a 17 year old male resident who was charged with Attempted Murder and Discharging a Firearm with Intent under the Criminal Code of Canada.   The male is in custody and will appear in court today in Kenora, Ontario, and cannot be identified under the authority of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.  Police believe the suspect is involved in another firearm incident involving shots fired, this incident is currently under investigation and any charges laid will be released at a later date. 

Wunnumin Lake First Nation is approximately 500 km north of Thunder Bay.
