POLICE INVESTIGATE DEATH IN FORT SEVERN

(FORT SEVERN, ON) – The Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS) and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are conducting an investigation into a death that occurred on October 16, 2013 in the Washaho Cree Nation (Fort Severn) First Nation community. 

The NAPS officer was called to a report of a serious assault at a residence in the community.  The officer and community members attended the location and found one seriously injured female who they transported to the Nursing Station.  The female was treated but succumbed to her injuries.   Georgina Becky STONEY, 24 years old, was pronounced deceased at the Nursing Station.   

A post mortem examination is scheduled to take place today, October 17, 2013, in Kenora Ontario.  

Tommy Raymond MILES Jr., 19 years old, from Washaho Cree Nation, was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder.  The accused is currently in custody and will appear in Kenora Court today, October 17, 2013.  

Officers from the NAPS and the OPP North West Region Crime Units are continuing the investigation under the direction of Acting Detective Inspector Randy Heida of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.
