(SANDY LAKE, ON) - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has been requested to assist Nishnawbe-Aski Nation Police Service (NAPS) in relation to an occurrence on the Sandy Lake First Nation. At approximately 5:30am on May 12, 2013 Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service responded to a call for medical assistance at a residence in Sandy Lake. An adult male was removed from the residence and pronounced dead at the Sandy Lake Nursing Station. 

The post mortem examination took place in Kenora May 13, 2013 and the male has been identified as 29 year old Uriah KAKEPETUM of Sandy Lake First Nation. 

North West Region OPP Crime Unit members and Nishnawbe-Aski Police, under the direction of Acting Detective Inspector Jim Smyth of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), are continuing their investigation.
