COMBINED FORCES SEIZE MARIJUANA AND CASH IN THUNDER BAY Print

The Combined Forces Organized Crime Unit consists of members from The Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service, The Thunder Bay Police Service, The O.P.P.- Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, The R.C.M.P., and The Anishinabek Police Service.

On January 20, 2012 Thunder Bay Drug Enforcement Officers commenced an investigation involving a cache of illegal drugs.

Investigation continued and on January 23, 2012 James Allan MAKI 27 years of age a Thunder Bay resident was arrested while operating his 2004 pickup truck.  In the vehicle were two boxes containing approximately 14.46 pounds of marijuana. The vehicle was also seized as offence related property.

A CDSA search warrant was later executed on MAKI’s residence. A 26 year old female resident was arrested. A result of the search resulted in approximately $3,400.00 in Canadian currency as well as approximately 95 grams in additional marijuana being seized. Street value of the drugs is approximately $131,360.00.

MAKI has been held in custody and has previous convictions for similar offences dating to 2006 and appeared in court January 24, 2012. He was released on a Recognizance with conditions and will appear in Thunder Bay court on February 14, 2012. MAKI has been charged with

Trafficking Marijuana sec 5(1) CDSA

  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking sec 5(2) CDSA
  • Possession of Proceeds of Crime sec 354 (1)(a) CC
  • Breach of Probation sec 733.1(1)(a) CC

A subsequent search resulted in the seizure of approximately $48,000.00 in Canadian currency. Investigation continues with the assistance of the provincial Asset Forfeiture Unit.

The female was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance sec 4(1) and later released on a Promise to Appear with a future court date of February 28, 2012.
