$12,600.00 ALCHOL SEIZURE IN KASHECHEWAN Print

(Kashechewan, ON) On May 22, 2011, the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service assisted members of the Band Council and local security with a large alcohol seizure destined for the remote First Nation of Kashechewan.

As a result of the information received, members of the Kashechewan Band Council attended the local airport and 63 bottles of Smirnoff Vodka 750 ml bottles were seized. The total street value of the alcohol is estimated at twelve thousand six-hundred dollars ($12,600.00).  Kashechewan is a First Nation community on the west side of James Bay which has a band by-law that prohibits the Possession and Sale of alcohol in the community.

This occurrence is still under investigation by the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service.  Anyone with information regarding this occurrence or any other information with regard to the transportation or smuggling of alcohol is encouraged to call their local NAPS detachment.
