OPP PARTNERSHIP RESULTS IN CHRISTMAS CHEER FOR EABAMETOONG Print

(Fort Hope, ON) On December 20, 2010, several partners joined together to bring a surprise early visit from Santa Claus in the community of Eabametoong First Nation.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has been assisting Nishnawbe-Aski Police (NAPS) in the community of Eabametoong First Nation to provide policing during the past weeks.  Sgt. Denette MASLACH of the OPP rallied regional organizations together to provide donations of clothing and gifts of toys.  The organizations include Nishnawbe-Aski Police, OPP Thunder Bay Detachment, OPP Provincial Communications Centre, OPP Dryden Detachment, Walmart in both Thunder Bay and Dryden, Canadian Tire Dryden, Slate River Baptist Church plus many individuals who heard about the initiative.  Wasaya Airways also joined in the effort by transporting all donated cargo free of charge.  An abundance of surplus donations that could not make it on the scheduled flights also arrived in Eabametoong by a charter flight thanks to the coordinated efforts between Chief and Council, Tikanagan Child and Family Services, Eabametoong Health and the Education Authority.

Through the support of partnerships between Tikanagan Family Services, Ontario Provincial Police and Nishnawbe-Aski Police this Christmas Cheer was brought to Eabametoong First Nation through a Christmas Party event located at the school gym.  Santa Claus had the children lined up by the hundreds to receive gifts, all made possible by the kindness of so many in the region.  A total of 1200 lbs in donations was received.

Eabametoong First Nation is located approximately 385 km northeast of Thunder Bay.
