NISHNAWBE-ASKI POLICE OFFICER COMMENDED FOR LIFESAVING ASSISTANCE Print

(Sioux Lookout) On November 17, 2010, a member of the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service assisted a landfill attendant in a medical emergency that occurred at the Hidden Lake Landfill in the Municipality of Sioux Lookout.

Constable William MICHALCHUK and the landfill attendant observed a man who was standing nearby begin to show signs of pain and discomfort.  Cst. Michalchuk began to assist the man by asking questions about what symptoms were being experienced.  Immediately following, the man had lost consciousness while being transported to the hospital for assessment and 911 was dispatched.  The quick actions of the officer and landfill attendant resulted in the man's recovery at the Sioux Lookout Meno-Ya-Win Health Centre.

Cst. Michalchuk happily received a letter of appreciation from Mr. Matthew Stewardson, Public Works Manager for the Municipality of Sioux Lookout.

Sioux Lookout is approximately 370 km northwest of Thunder Bay.
