POLICE INVESTIGATE DEATH IN EABAMETOONG FIRST NATION Print

(FORT HOPE, ON) - On September 27, 2010, at approximately 8:00 a.m., members of the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service were called to a report of a deceased male in the community of Eabametoong First Nation.

At the request of the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North West Region Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch was called in to assist in this investigation.

The deceased is 38-year-old James WASAWA from Eabametoong First Nation. A post mortem examination took place at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on September 28, 2010. 

Currently in custody is 27-year-old William OSKINEEGISH of Eabametoong First Nation. He was arrested on September 27, 2010 and has been charged with Second Degree Murder, Mischief and Breach of Probation contrary to the Criminal Code. He is to appear in Thunder Bay court October 4, 2010.

The investigation is continuing under the direction of Detective Inspector Martin GRAHAM.

Eabametoong First Nation is located approximately 385 km northeast of Thunder Bay.
