MAJOR DRUG SEIZURE AT SANDY LAKE AIRPORT Print

(Sandy Lake) On October 29, 2009 Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service charged a female young offender under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act from an investigation assisted by the First Nation Band Constables at the Sandy Lake Airport.

Police seized a street value of approximately thirty thousand four hundred dollars ($30,400.00) worth of OxyContin prescription drugs from the female, who cannot be identified under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.  The drugs were transported to the remote northern First Nation of Sandy Lake from the Winnipeg airport.

The sixteen (16) year old female of Sandy Lake was charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.  She appeared before a Justice of the Peace on October 30, 2009 and has since been released on a Promise to Appear for court in Sandy Lake on December 8, 2009.

Sandy Lake First Nation is located approximately 600 kilometres northwest of Thunder Bay.
