Missing Officer Update Print


The search for Sr. Constable Wilfred Chum of Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service is now entering it's 12th day. Cst. Chum was reported missing after a boat he was in capsized on the Winisk Rive on June 18th, 2009.

Volunteers from the First Nation communities of Peawanuck, Ft.Albany, Moose Factory, Kashechewan, Attawapiskat are still actively searching the area.

A helicopter was hired by Moose Cree First Nation to assist in the aerial search.

On June 29, 2009 an aerial search continued along the shores of the Winisk River. Six (6) boats with teams consisting of three(3) people were deployed to drag the river bottom. Due to high winds the search was discontinued by the afternoon.

The search continues today with the aerial search and dragging operations.

The Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service is maintaining consistent contact for updates through the volunteers involved with the Chum Search and Rescue Operations in Peawanuck.
