NAPS PARTERSHIPS RESPOND TO DRUG STATE OF EMERGENCY PDF Print E-mail

(Timmins, ON) Between May 28 and May 30, 2018, Nishnawbe Aski Police (NAPS) Drug Enforcement Unit worked in partnership with the Timmins Police Service and Canada Post on an initiative to investigate illegal drugs destined for the northern communities of the Mushkegowuk Tribal Council.

The initiative was in response to the State of Emergency declared by Mushkegowuk Tribal Council on November 15, 2017.

Suspicious packages destined for the Mushkegowuk communities of the James Bay area such as, Attawapiskat First Nation; Kashechewan First Nation; Fort Albany First Nation; and Moose Cree First Nation, were investigated using an x-ray machine. The investigative procedures fell under the provisions of both the Criminal Code of Canada and the Canada Postal Act.

As a result of the investigation, 15 packages were searched resulting in approximately 449 grams of Marihuana and 1.7 grams of Hashish being seized.

Attawapiskat First Nation is located approximately 630 km north of Timmins, Ontario.
Kashechewan First Nation is located approximately 500 km northwest of Timmins, Ontario.
Fort Albany First Nation is located approximately 525 km north of Timmins, Ontario.
Moose Cree First Nation (Moose Factory) is located approximately 315 km north of Timmins, Ontario.
