*UPDATE* FORT SEVERN RESIDENTIAL FIRE UNDER INVESTIGATION PDF Print E-mail

(Fort Severn, ON) On Monday, March 31, 2014, at approximately 5:00 a.m., Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service members at the Fort Severn Detachment began an investigation following the report of a residential fire. Police confirmed that several people did escape the residential fire and that one individual had not yet been accounted for.

At this time police can confirm that one body has been recovered from the residence. A post-mortem examination will take place on April 3, 2014, in Kenora, Ontario.

This investigation is continuing with the NAPS North West Region Crime Unit, the OPP Identification Unit, and the Ontario Fire Marshall.

Further updates will be released as they become available.

Fort Severn First Nation is approximately 850 km north of Thunder Bay and 715 km northeast of Red Lake.
