FATAL HOUSE FIRE IN WUNNUMIN LAKE FIRST NATION PDF Print E-mail

(Wunnumin Lake, ON)  On May 8, 2013, at approximately 9:00 a.m., Nishnawbe-Aski Police Wunnumin Lake Detachment received a report of a residential house fire.  Members of the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service North West Crime Unit attended to conduct an investigation. 

Police responded to the scene of the house fire and subsequently three people were confirmed to have died in relation to the house fire.  The identities of the deceased have not been confirmed at this time.  Post-mortem examinations of the deceased will take place in Toronto, Ontario at an unspecified date and the identities will be available following that time.  One person suffered injuries as a result of several attempts to rescue the victims and is reported to be in stable condition. 

On May 9, 2013, the office of the Ontario Fire Marshall arrived on scene to assist in the NAPS investigation.  

The house fire is still under investigation and updates will be provided as they become available. 

Wunnumin Lake First Nation is located approximately 500 km north of Thunder Bay.
