NISHNAWBE-ASKI POLICE VEHICLE SET ON FIRE IN FORT HOPE PDF Print E-mail

(Fort Hope, ON) In the early hours of November 10, 2011, a Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service Eabametoong Detachment member was alerted to flames and heavy smoke coming from the police vehicle parked outside of his residence.

The officer had to evacuate his family which includes small children and call the Eabametoong Fire Department.  Several attempts were made to extinguish the fire which had quickly spread to the engine of the police vehicle but none of the attempts were successful.  The police vehicle fire had resulted in several small explosions and had also caused damage to the officer's residence.

The police are currently investigating this incident as an arson.  Anyone with information about this occurrence are encouraged to contact the detachment at (807) 242-8561 or by calling confidentially to CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Eabametoong First Nation is located approximately 385 km northeast of Thunder Bay.
