(Thunder Bay)  On May 25, 2011, members from the Combined Forces Organized Crime Unit executed a search warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act at a residence in Attawapiskat.  The operation included assistance by the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS) Attawapiskat Detachment members, NAPS Drug Unit, NAPS Guns & Gangs Unit, also the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Canine Unit, OPP Guns & Gang Unit, and the Thunder Bay Police Service Drug Unit.

Police seized approximately 110 Oxycodone 40mg prescription pills, 59 Oxycodone 5mg prescription pills, 4.5g of Cocaine, along with four thousand six-hundred seventy two dollars ($4,672.00) in Canadian currency.  The total estimated northern street value of the seized drugs is approximately thirteen thousand six-hundred seventy dollars ($13,670.00).

Forty-three (43) year-old Richard EDWARDS of Attawapiskat First Nation has been charged with two counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking in Cocaine and Oxycodone.  EDWARDS was released on an Undertaking and will next appear in court in Attawapiskat on July 20. 2011.

Attawapiskat First Nation is located approximately 630 kilometres north of Timmins, Ontario.

The Combined Forces Organized Crime Unit consists of members from The Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service, The Thunder Bay Police Service, The O.P.P.- Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, The R.C.M.P., and The Anishinabek Police Service.
