ARMED MALE ARRESTED IN MISHKEEGOGAMANG PDF Print E-mail

(Mishkeegogamang, ON) On February 2, 2011, at 3:30 a.m., the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service responded to a call about an armed suspect present at the Security office located at the Mishkeegogamang First Nation Band Office.

The OPP Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit were deployed, along with the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Canine Unit to assist detachment members.  Other resources deployed in this incident were the OPP Crisis Negotiation Team and the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit.

The incident was resolved peacefully at 11:30 a.m. with an eighteen (18) year-old male suspect surrendering himself to police.  The male is currently in custody and at this time no formal charges have yet been laid before the court.  No shots were fired during the incident.

The OPP Crime Unit and the NAPS Crime Unit are continuing their investigation into this incident. 

Mishkeegogamang First Nation is located approximately 315 km northwest of Thunder Bay.
