DRUG ENFORCEMENT UNIT ASSISTS WITH TEN PEOPLE FACING 74 CHARGES PDF Print E-mail

(CHAPLEAU, ON)  On October 28, 2010, members of the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Drug Enforcement Unit assisted with the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, the OPP Superior East Detachment, and the Wawa Police Service in charging ten individuals with drug related offences following early morning arrests conducted in the communities of Chapleau, Wawa, and the Brunswick House First Nation Territory.

The charges stem from a four month undercover investigation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Unit and the OPP Superior East Detachment.

The investigation focused on infiltrating drug traffickers operating in the communities of Wawa, Chapleau and the Brunswick House First Nation Territory.  An undercover officer was successful in infiltrating local traffickers and making numerous drug purchases. The investigation concluded with the execution of three search warrants.

Ten individuals have been charged with 74 offences contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and the Criminal Code of Canada. Drugs purchased and seized during the investigation include Cocaine, OxyCodone, Cannabis Marijuana, Cannabis Resin, Methamphetamine, and Psilocybin with a potential street value of over six thousand nine-hundred ($6,900) dollars.  In addition, a stolen handgun, a number of long guns, and approximately one thousand three-hundred ($1,300) dollars in cash were also seized.

The investigation is continuing.
